Si a estas alturas de la Historia de la Música Electrónica todavía necesitas un Vanity Dust Akademy para saber quiénes son Aux 88, te remito directamente al libro de Laurent Garnier. Pero si ya sabes quiénes son (un día puedo explicar también lo que es un Snippet, ya de paso) o sencillamente te perdiste el concierto porque estabas en otro lugar —o no estabas on board y no te enteraste— aquí van sus primeras palabras: sencillas, honestas y claras… después del concierto (March 2018).
Vanity Dust: La ciudad del motor se encontraba aislada en una crisis profunda, económica y moral, cuando el Techno de Detroit apareció con un claro mensaje en los inicios de los años 80. Por decirlo de un modo sencillo, este mensaje fue claramente recibido en Europa, especialmente en Berlín e Inglaterra. Ambas locations le dieron la bienvenida al sonido —del mismo modo que Bélgica y otros sitios de forma menos visible—. Recuerdo perfectamente leer acerca de los primeros artistas de Detroit llegando a pinchar en Berlín, como si se tratase de una experiencia liberadora. ¿Cómo sentísteis personalmente esta conexión? Fue algo con lo que habíais soñado previamente o era algo que estabais deseando que ocurriese a través de vuestras letras y sonidos?
AUX88: AUX88 nunca soñó con viajar por el mundo porque ya éramos felices con tener un acuerdo con un sello y sacar nuestro primer tema; pronto aprendimos que nos habíamos embarcado en algo diferente cuando nos comentaron que algunas revistas inglesas querían sacarnos unas fotos… Ahí es cuando vimos que habíamos dado con algo serio.
Vuestros conciertos son espaciados en el tiempo, pero son muy significativos para aquellos que acuden, ¿cómo fue vuestra actuación en Madrid en un momento tan delicado para Spain?
AUX88 y sus actuaciones en directo son un 50% improvisadas, paramos y seguimos cuando creemos y nos parece. Es una forma de compartir las vibes de forma natural entre todos, y nos gusta. La actuación de Madrid fue muy bonita ya que el crowd lo disfrutó tanto como si estuviesen en el stage. Disfrutamos mucho juntos y… ¡Madrid y AUX88 fueron un enorme show!
¿Es la música vuestra forma de hacer entender a la gente que lo importante es unirse para bailar y lograr así dejar los prejuicios o exclusiones que nos separan a unos de otros?
La música de AUX88 es tan solo “¡bailad, bailad!” lánzate a la pista y siéntete libre y disfruta de los sonidos y las melodías que empujan a tu cuerpo al movimiento. Amamos esta sensación y, el público, lo nota.

Las vestimentas de científicos que lleváis en los conciertos, ¿hay alguna conexión entre la tecnología, la música y la curación personal? Pienso en temas vuestros que tienen sugerentes títulos como Music is your medicine.
Las ropa que llevamos en los conciertos como AUX88 es tan solo una extensión de la tecnología que usamos en el laboratorio/estudio. Todo comenzó cuando hicimos el LP Mad Scientist hace algunos años. En ese LP, usamos tanto equipamiento analógico como digital. Además, fuimos capaces de meter visuales en ese tour. Music is your medicine es un tema que pinchamos de vez en cuando en los conciertos para mostrar nuestro lado del Detroit Techno con vocales de mujer. Nuestros shows no son solo electro ni techno nuestro, también tocamos temas de otros artistas reconocidos.
Acerca de vuestro último álbum, el más reciente, ¿cuándo y por qué decisteis y sentisteis que AUX88 tenía que regresar y abrir un nuevo tour?
Nunca hemos dejado los tours en sí, gracias a los grandes festivales hemos tenido la oportunidad de llegar a más gente y enseñar por qué nuestros shows son diferentes. Esto nos ha permitido algo más en la actualidad, que es tener tres estudios separados para continuar trabajando en nueva música y distintos proyectos media.
¿Cómo valoráis el feedback recibido desde la comunidad de música electrónica, e incluso más allá?
El feedback ha sido fenomenal… Apenas hemos comenzado ahora a relanzar todos los temas con beat clásicos de AUX88, Posatronix, K-1, Alien Fm y Optic Nerve. Seguiremos lanzando 4 releases anuales ya que ahora solo son rarezas y coleccionables que estaban agotados en todas partes. con los 3 estudios en marca, ¡Que comience la nueva música!

Detroit was isolated in an deep crisis, economical and moral, when Detroit techno appeared with a clear message in the early 80s. Fortunately, this message was really well received in Europe, specially in Berlin and UK, both places welcomed the new sound —the same did Belgium too and many others in a less visible way—. I remember perfectly reading about the first Detroit artists coming to play to Berlin as a truly liberating experience. How did you personally felt this connection? Was it something that you ever dreamt of or that you were willing to make it happen through your lyrics and sounds?
AUX88 never dreamed of traveling the world we were just happy to get a record deal and get our first record out. We learned early on that we had embarked on something different when were told we would be doing some photo shoots for some uk magazines ….Thats when it hit this is really serious
Your gigs are spaced in time but are really meaningful for those who attend to them, how was your Madrid performance in such a delicate moment for Spain?
Aux88 live performances are about 50 percent improvised we pause and stop whenever we want its just away of being natural and vibing off of each other and the audience. The Madrid performance was A very beautiful event as the crowd was just as much of a part of the show as we were performing it. We Enjoyed eachother… Madrid and AUX88 made a great show that night!
Music your way to make people understand how to get together and leave behind other prejudices or judgements that might separate ones from the others?
AUX88 music is just that dance, dance, come out and let yourself be free and enjoy that melodic sound that drives you to move… we love it and the crowd can feel that.
The scientists dress you wear in your performances. Is there a connection between technology, music and healing? I’m thinking about tracks like “Music is your medicine”.
Aux88 Lab wear is just extension of the technology and working in the lab or studio. It all started when we did the Mad Scientist LP a few years back we used all analog and digital on that LP and were able to bring the visuals out with that tour. Music is your medicine is a track we play from time to time to show our Detroit techno side with female vocals. Our shows are not just electro but techno as well, and we even do other famous artist tracks.
About your most recent album, when and why you decided and felt that Aux 88 had to come back and keep on touring?
We never really stopped touring we started playing so many big festivals it really gave us a chance to reach more people and show why our shows were different. Which now has allowed us to build three separate studios to continue on working on some new music and different media ventures.
Which has been the feedback received from the electronic music community and beyond?
The feed back has been phenomenal ….We have just started reissuing all the direct beat classic tracks from Aux88,Posatronix, K-1, Alien Fm and Optic Nerve… We will be releasing about 4 releases a year as they are now rare and collectables that were sold out everywhere. With those 3 studios being built, let the new music commence!
